Last week our Community Investment and Customer Involvement Team relaunched the Community Champion scheme at Westcroft Community Centre.
What happened at the event?
There was a fantastic turn out to the event from residents in our community. Amongst the guests at the event were some of Southway’s existing volunteers and many new faces too. The event was informal, sociable and valuable as guests at the launch enjoyed lunch followed by introductions to some of Southway’s services. This proved to be informative and sparked conversation between everybody about the important role Community Champions have to play.
What are Community Champions?
Community Champions is a new flexible volunteering opportunity, aimed at creating a positive link between tenants and Southway.
Community Champions will help other tenants by giving information or providing support. This could be something as simple as telling someone what the criteria is to join the Quids In Food Club; it could be sharing your experience of accessing a service at Southway, or elsewhere; or it could be advising people about claiming Universal Credit.
You can read more about Community Champions here.
How can I get involved?
Southway has a range of ways in which residents of any age or background can get involved, help shape our services or provide feedback. Find out more about the ways you can get involved here.
