Work has started to improve tenants’ homes to keep them safe, warm and comfortable.
Over the next year, Southway will spend over £14 million on the following upgrades to tenants’ homes including:
- 50 new kitchens
- 70 new bathrooms
- 739 new gas boilers
- 65 energy efficient air source heating systems
- 600 homes will be fitted with better insultation, ventilation, heating and lighting and other energy saving features to make them warmer and cheaper to run.
- 1200 homes to be externally painted
- 200 homes will get replacement boundaries
The energy saving improvements are part of the Government’s Warm Homes Energy Efficient Programme and Southway’s goal for all of it homes to reach an energy performance rating of at least EPC C by 2030.
Southway surveyed around 90% of its homes last year to check their condition and energy efficiency to help identify where investment is needed most.
The improvement works are being completed in stages and are part of a longer-term investment programme for homes. A plan of how work will be rolled out is being with involved and tenants are being contacted ahead of time if their homes are due for improvements this year.
Southway also funds major and minor adaptations to help people to live independently in their homes in partnership with Manchester City Council.
