Westcroft Community Centre, a charity that we're really proud to support and fund, was recognised at the ‘Spirit of Manchester 2026’ Awards and Fund programme, hosted by Manchester Community Central, where it won the Volunteer Involving Organisation Award.
The community centre is a friendly and welcoming space in Burnage that offers a wide range of activities and services for local people such as community gardening, breakfast clubs, discussion groups, and children’s craft activities. These are supported by volunteers, who give their time and share their skills to help others in the community.
Matthew Barker, Community Centre Manager, said:
“I'm so proud of team here at Westcroft, we're fortunate to have over 20 volunteers involved in running lots of different services and activities. We'd simply be lost without them.
"I have nothing but admiration for their constant commitment to our centre and community, and it was a joy seeing them all enjoy an evening that celebrated those people and places that make Manchester such a great place to live.”
Maureen White, Volunteer, said:
“This evening and winning this award made me proud to be a volunteer at Westcroft. We're more than just a team, we’re a family. Everyone's welcome and being part of this centre has given me a real sense of belonging. It was lovely to see and learn so much about other groups and people who do so much for their communities. I enjoyed it all, but hearing our name called as winners is something I won’t forget.”
Mona Moussa, Board Member, presented the award to the volunteers on behalf of Manchester Community Central, which is a charity that supports and develops voluntary, community and social enterprise (VCSE) organisations and helps local people have a voice in their communities.
