If your current home is too big for your needs, we may be able to help you move to a smaller one and support you to clear up to £2,500 of rent you owe.
This is part of a new project we’re trialling with Manchester City Council, created to make moving easier when your home no longer fits your lifestyle.

Living in a home that’s no longer right for you can be difficult, especially if it costs more to run or is harder to manage. Moving to a smaller home could help you:
- Save money on rent and household bills
- Avoid the bedroom tax
- Spend less time on cleaning and maintenance
- Meet any medical or mobility needs
- Move to a more suitable area
To take part:
- You must be living in a Southway home with two or more unused bedrooms
- You are behind on your rent
- You’ll need to register on Manchester Move so we can help you find and bid for a new home
If you move through the scheme:
- You’ll receive up to £2,500 to pay off the rent you owe
- Any money left over will be credited to you
- Manchester City Council can also help with removal costs
