Manchester Move
Manchester Move is run by Manchester City Council and lists:
All available housing association properties in Manchester, including Southway homes:
- Social housing, including social rent
- Private rent
- Mutual exchanges
- Low-cost home ownership
- Exclusive for over 55s
Once you have applied through the Manchester Move website, you’ll get an email telling you which housing association your application is with.
Your Manchester Move email will tell you what to do next and which documents you need to submit to the housing association.
All documents need to be uploaded to your Manchester Move account.
The documents you will need to upload are:
- Evidence that the main applicant has lived in Manchester for the last 2 years e.g. one for 2023 and one for 2024. This is only required if you are not already a Southway tenant
- A National Insurance number for all adults who are moving
- Evidence of current address (please make sure this is dated within the last three months and includes your name) for all adults in the current household. The evidence could be a copy of a tenancy agreement, mortgage statement, utility bill, benefit award letter or bank statement. Please make sure it includes your full name, address and the date.
- A copy of photo identification for all adults who are moving
- Proof of Child Benefit for all children in the current household. Please ensure this is dated within the last three months and includes your name, address and a bank or other account document showing the payment entering your account
If you are unable to do this or need further assistance, please call 0161 448 4200 and press option 4 for rehousing.
- Wait for your housing association to contact you
- You will be notified via email when your application has been activated
- If the application takes longer than 28 working days, you don’t need to contact the housing association. Once your application is live or if any additional information is needed, you will be contacted
- Your queue/priority date will be updated to reflect the date we receive all your documents. You won’t lose your place in the queue if it takes longer to process your application

If your current home is too big for your needs, we may be able to help you move to a smaller one and support you to clear up to £2,500 of rent you owe.
This is part of a new project we’re trialling with Manchester City Council, created to make moving easier when your home no longer fits your lifestyle.
If you're behind on your rent and live in a home that’s bigger than you need, please do get in touch so we can support you.
