New energy efficient homes for shared ownership in Old Trafford, Stretford are set to complete this autumn.
The 10, three-storey townhouses at Christie Road, just off Chester Road are part of an £18.6m scheme of 60 homes being built by housing association Southway Housing Trust through Government’s Affordable Homes Programme.
The shared ownership homes, marketed by Southway’s sales and management partner Gecko Homes, offer an affordable route onto the property ladder.
Buyers can purchase a share in a new build home from 10% of its market value and with a deposit as low as 5%. They would need to secure a mortgage or other approved funding options to do this and would pay a reduced rent on the remaining part to landlord Southway. There are options to buy more shares over time too.
The three-bedroom houses feature an office, two ensuites, a private garden and terrace, off road parking and electric vehicle charge points. Trafford Park and Stretford rail links are a short walk away.
The timber frame homes use air source heat pumps for heating and hot water to help keep residents’ bills low.
They exceed Government requirements for energy efficiency achieving an energy performance certificate (EPC) rating of B – the second best (based on A to G).
Jonathan Turner, Southway Housing Trust’s Assistant Director of Development said: “We’re really pleased to be building homes to help people to buy in such a desirable location that is seeing increased investment.
“Christie Road has excellent transport links and is close to many local amenities and services as well as world-class sport, retail and leisure attractions.”
Gecko Homes’ Head of Sales and Home Ownership, Christina Tattersall added: “Affordability and energy efficiency are two of the biggest priorities for today’s homebuyers, and the Christie Road homes deliver on both. Shared ownership provides a flexible and accessible route into a new-build home, and we’re proud to support buyers in Trafford with options that keep both upfront costs and ongoing bills manageable. We expect demand to be high, and our team is ready to help buyers explore what’s possible.”
The remaining homes at the 43,000 square foot Christie Road development are a mix of one and two-bed apartments for shared ownership and social rent which are due to complete in January 2027. The scheme is funded by Homes England and Greater Manchester Combined Authority’s Brownfield Housing Fund.
