Modern homes, historic character, and sustainable living, welcome to Southway’s latest development.

We’re delighted to announce the completion of 30 new affordable homes at our exciting development, Tatton Place, in the heart of desirable Sale and a stone’s throw from the canal. This iconic former police station has been transformed to make way for modern new houses and apartments for shared ownership.

Tatton Place - New Build Exterior

A total of 30 one, two and three-bed houses and apartments have been built at the development which also includes the former Masonic Hall site, 1 and 2 bed apartments, and 1 and 3 bed houses close to the Bridgewater Canal to help people onto the housing ladder. Shared ownership is designed to help buyers get onto the property ladder when buying outright might not be affordable. So far, 15 homes have been reserved via our sales and management partner Gecko Homes, and eight households have already moved in.

The development was made possible thanks to funding from the Homes England Affordable Homes Programme, and Greater Manchester Combined Authority (GMCA), and construction delivered by GK Construction. We also worked with Trafford Council to ‘lead with landscape’ in the design process, ensuring we deliver good quality amenities for our residents.

Built with you in mind

Keeping energy costs low for residents is a top priority. All homes are fully electric, featuring heat pump systems and, in some cases, PV solar panels to help reduce energy bills. Our new-build homes are constructed using timber frames, offering excellent insulation and the refurbished police station has been upgraded with high levels of insulation, new energy-efficient windows and doors to maximise EPC ratings.

Respectful refurbishment and restoration

The former police station is significant to the area’s heritage, and we’ve sympathetically restored it to preserve its character while making it fit for modern living.

The refurbished homes retain original features such as chimneys, stone detailing, and roof coverings. Materials were carefully matched to the original building, including timber windows and doors on the front elevation.

Stonework on the parapet and other decorative details have been cleaned, treated, and repaired, with the headstone above the main entrance inscribed ‘Cheshire Constabulary 1881’ standing as a proud reminder of the building’s history.

Inside, unique features like the vaulted ceilings from the original police cells have been retained in one of the houses. Outside, the historic police lamp and street sign have also been restored and preserved.
