As we mark Anti-Social Behaviour (ASB) Awareness Week from 29 June to 5 July, we’re taking the opportunity to raise awareness, support our customers, and highlight the work we do to help make our communities safer and stronger.
What is ASB?
Anti-social behaviour, often called ASB, is behaviour that causes harassment, alarm or distress to another person.
ASB can take many forms—from noise nuisance and vandalism to harassment, intimidation or drug-related activity. Whatever the issue, we understand the impact it can have on people’s safety, wellbeing and sense of home.
That's why our message this week has been simple - Speak up, don't put up.
Supporting you every step of the way
We know that reporting ASB can feel difficult. Many people worry they won’t be listened to or that nothing will change. We want you to know that our dedicated teams are here to make sure that doesn’t happen.
We take all reports of ASB seriously and will work with you to find the right solution. This can include:
- Offering early advice and practical support
- Working with partners such as the Police and Manchester City Council
- Using tools like free and unbiased third-party mediation to find a solution
- Taking legal action when we need to
We can also help you access an ASB Case Review if you don't feel like your situation's improved, making sure your voice is heard and partners like the council and police come together to take action.
Finding an early solution
One of the key messages we’ve shared this week is how mediation can help solve and ongoing ASB or disputes.
Sometimes, issues between neighbours can be resolved through mediation.
Mediation is free and confidential, and run by an independent and neutral third party. It gives you a safe and structured space to talk about your experience and feel heard, and aims to help the people involved in the case:
-
Understand each other and resolve conflict
-
Agree realistic and practical solutions that work for you
-
Change behaviour and move forward positively
ASB Case Review
If you’ve reported ASB but don’t feel like things have improved, you can ask for an ASB Case Review. A case review:
-
Brings together partner agencies like the Council, Police and any other housing providers
-
Looks at everything that’s happened so far
-
Creates a joint action plan to try and resolve the issue
Find out more about requesting a case review on Manchester City Council's website here.
Coming together to tackle ASB in the community
As part of ASB Awareness Week, we’re also getting out into our communities to speak directly with residents. We'll be at the weekly coffee morning at Fletcher Moss Rangers FC tomorrow to share more information and support around ASB.
📍 Fletcher Moss Rangers FC, 18 Waterford Avenue M20 2ZN
📅 Wednesday 1 July
🕙 10am - 12 noon
Our team will be there to share information about anti-social behaviour, offer advice and support, and talk through any concerns you might have.
We’d love for you to come along, have a chat, and find out more about how we can support you.
We’re here all year round
While ASB Awareness Week helps shine a spotlight on these issues, our work doesn’t stop here. We're committed to listening, supporting and working with our communities every day to tackle anti-social behaviour and help people feel safe in their homes.
If something's affecting your safety or wellbeing, please don’t ignore it.
Find out more or report ASB on the dedicated ASB page on our website.
Finally, please remember that, if you, your family or home are in immediate danger, always call 999 to speak to the police.
