The Time is Now is Southway’s new employment support course, aimed at helping you to plan your goals, build your confidence and leave you better equipped to take the next steps towards your dream career.

Created in the wake of the coronavirus pandemic, The Time is Now aims to make the best of this uncertain time by providing the time and space for self-reflection. The five-week course actively encourages participants to fully realise their aspirations and take positive action towards their career goals.

During this lockdown, even though a lot’s going on, there is also the opportunity to use some time to reflect and look at opportunities available for careers, enterprise, employment and training. This 5-week programme means people can work on their confidence, setting and achieving goals and start to work towards their next steps in employment or enterprise.

The sessions are held over Zoom and focus on a different topic each week. In each session, participants are given activities to explore the week’s topic and lay the ground work for their next career move.

Over the five weeks of the course, participants cover:

  • Week 1: Confidence

Learning how to build your confidence and self-esteem so you can make the changes you want to see in your life.

  • Week 2: Goals

Discover how to create achievable goals to help you better explore your options.

  • Week 3: Self-employment

If you want to be your own boss, or turn a hobby into a side hustle, this session explores the fundamental dos and don’ts of starting your own business.

  • Week 4: Training

Find out what training is available to help you build on your skills and take the next steps in your career.

  • Week 5: Next steps

This final session is an opportunity for you to finish ‘The Time is Now’ with a clear idea of what your next steps will be.

Since its launch in May, two groups have now completed The Time is Now, and staff from a number of organisations, including Standguide, Be Well, Enterprising You and Proper Job Theatre Company, have joined the sessions to advise on confidence-building, training opportunities and more.

The Time is Now has received some fantastic feedback from its participants, including Lina, who joined the course with the aim of starting a wellbeing advisory service. Lina knew she wanted to run a business which offered yoga classes and wellbeing advice in education and community settings, but was unsure on how to get started. Since completing The Time is Now, she is now ready to take the next steps towards starting her business.

I really enjoyed and appreciated The Time is Now. It was very well planned, with activities that helped to have insight on the journey we would like to take, and also lots of resources to find support on it. The course is engaging and challenging. I really enjoyed taking action and interaction with others. This really supported my mental health during lockdown. Many thanks for your time I would totally recommend this course to others
