Equality and diversity
We recognise the diversity of people living in the Southway area. We are committed to treating everyone equally, and meeting the particular needs of different groups and individuals.
Our equality and diversity policies cover everything we do as a housing-provider and employer: the way we deliver services and run the organisation; how we treat our staff and job applicants; how we allocate homes to rehousing applicants; access to information and advice; tenant participation; complaints and customer satisfaction; dealing with antisocial behaviour, harassment and domestic violence; how we buy goods and services; how we make decisions about improving homes and regenerating estates.
We do this by following these principles:
1. To treat everyone with respect, and sensitivity to their background, circumstances and personality.
2. To help prevent discrimination, harassment or hate crime, and to tackle it quickly if it occurs.
3. To encourage good relations between everyone, whatever their age, colour, ethnic origin, gender, gender reassignment status, religion, belief, lack of religion or belief, disability, sexual orientation, nationality, family status, or relationship status.
4. To include groups of people who are frequently excluded, when we review policies or make decisions.
5. To make sure that everyone working for Southway understands equality and diversity issues, and considers them in all areas of their work.
6. To go beyond the legal requirements of equality and diversity whenever possible.
