Bogus Callers

Before you let anyone into your home:

STOP - Are you expecting anyone? Have you locked the back door?

CHAIN - Always put the chain on before opening your front door.

CHECK - Always ask the person for identification and get them to pass it through the letter box and always check it by phone.

Criminals will target older or vulnerable people wherever possible, although anyone can become a victim of a doorstep criminal. Doorstep crime includes distraction burglary, bogus officials and rogue trader crimes. Criminals involved in these types of crimes usually 'cold call' at people’s homes, and use a variety of tricks to steal as much money as possible.
