Do-it-yourself improvements

Getting our permission

Do you want to make your own improvements to your home - central heating, a shower or new cupboards for instance?

Your tenancy agreement gives you the legal right to make improvements like this, as long as you get our written agreement first.

But before you do anything, remember we're carrying out a multi-million improvement package. It may not be a good idea to put in your own improvements if we'll be doing the same thing soon anyway. See what we will be doing in your home - check your home.

How to get our agreement

Send us the application form at least 28 days before you plan to start work. You can:

We'll visit you at home within a few days to check the work would be safe, assess the effect on the property and other people, and advise you about getting planning and building permission.

What else do you need?

You may need to get planning permission from Manchester City Council and building regulation approval - depending on what you want to do. You will certainly need to get permission and approval to put up a new building (like a garage) or to extend your home.

Don't start work until you have got all the permission and approval you need - you could end up having to put it all back again!
