Improvements for every home
Southway tenants can look forward to a £107 million package of home improvements.
Local people have told us that a big priority is to make homes safe, secure and modern. So depending on the results of a home survey, you will get:
- new upvc double-glazed windows, from a choice of
designs.
- new, high-quality, external front and back doors if you need them - choose from various types.
- a new roof if your home needs it.
- a new fitted kitchen - if yours has not had high-quality replacement units since 2000. It will include vinyl flooring, tiling, redecoration and extra sockets if you need them. You can pick from a choice of fittings, styles and colours.
- a new bathroom suite, including a shower over the bath, with vinyl flooring, tiling and redecoration. There's a range of fittings to choose from.
- a new upstairs toilet - if there's room and it can be done without major structural work - and a hand-rinse basin, if you don’t have one, for the downstairs toilet.
- rewiring where required to modern standards, including a smoke detector and external courtesy light.
- upgrades to your heating if necessary - including a new, energy-efficient, combi-boiler.
- loft and cavity wall insulation if your home needs it.
- external wall cladding if you live in a certain type of 'non-traditional' property (called 'Corolite' or 'Diatomite') and your home hasn't already got it.
We're spending another £10 million improving the local environment to make Southway estates brighter and safer. We'll consult local people in detail about how and where to spend this cash.
Many homes will also benefit from any work needed to bring them up to decent, modern standards: structural repairs or re-roofing for instance depending on what the survey says.
With nearly 6,000 homes to do, it will take some time to get to everyone. Please be patient - it will be worth the wait. The work started in November 2007 and will last around five years.
When will we come down your street?
Our online home improvement service tells you what you'll get, when we plan to start work, and when we expect to finish. Check your home.
