Fitting your own gas appliance

You have the legal right to install your own gas fire and make other improvements, as long as you get our written agreement first.

But before you do anything, remember we're carrying out a multi-million home improvement package. It may not be a good idea to put in your own fire if we're due to upgrade your heating soon anyway. See what we will be doing in your home - check your home.

  • If you want to put in your own gas fire, you need our written permission first. You must use a CORGI-registered engineer.
  • If you want to fit your own gas cooker, you do not need our permission, but you should use a CORGI-registered engineer.
Regular checks

A CORGI-registered installer must check your gas appliances once every 12 months. If we have put in the appliances, we will do this for you – see annual gas servicing and safety checks. If you have put them in yourselves, you must arrange it.

If you are in any doubt about the safety of any gas equipment, turn it off and don’t use it until it has been checked professionally.
