What is a tenants' group?
A tenants' group is an organisation formed by local people. It is run by volunteers and must be open to everyone who lives in the area it covers.
The group may concentrate only on housing issues in their own neighbourhood or it could get involved in wider housing policies that affect everyone in the Southway area. It could work just on housing, or it could be involved in a whole range of community issues.
To get involved in the housing service, and to qualify for funding, a group must be officially 'recognised' by Southway Housing Trust.
An active and responsible group plays a vital role in building and sustaining a healthy community. It makes sure that local housing staff provide the services local people want. And by getting involved in decisions about wider housing policies, it can help shape the housing service for all our tenants.
We help tenants to set up tenant and resident groups and then we continue to support them by attending meetings and providing advice and training. Groups that are officially recognised can also receive grant funding.
