Saving Energy
Southway Housing Trust is carrying out a series of improvements to your home which include the following energy savings measures.
- new upvc double-glazed windows, from a choice of designs
- upgrades to your heating if necessary - including a new, energy-efficient, combi-boiler.
- loft and cavity wall insulation if your home needs it
- external wall cladding if you live in a certain type of 'non-traditional' property (called 'Corolite' or 'Diatomite') and your home hasn't already got it.
As well as this you can follow these energy efficiency measures to make your home easier and cheaper to heat - and help prevent climate change too.
It's especially important for people on low incomes, whose homes are often the hardest and most expensive to keep warm; and for people who are at home all day or who have higher heating needs because of illness or disability.
And for homeowners or tenants of a private landlord in the Southway area
The Warm homes Project Grant
If you are a homeowner, or rent from a private landlord, you could get free, or discounted, energy efficiency measures to make your home more comfortable and cut your heating bills.
The Warm Homes Project, a partnership between Manchester City Council, Scottish Power and Insulation UK offers cavity wall insulation, draught-proofing, loft insulation, reflective radiator panels, hot-water cylinder jackets and low-energy lightbulbs.
The work is free (up to a maximum amount) if you are 60 or over, or have a child under six, or get certain benefits.
Great Discounts
Even if you don't qualify for free improvements you can still get great discounts: it's just £50 for cavity wall insulation, and £50 for loft insulation; or you can get cut-price draught-proofing or reflective radiator panels.
